Premier League – Best pegs back Villa in draw

Newcastle and Aston Villa retained their unbeaten Premier League records following an eventful 1-1 draw at Villa Park.

Gabriel Agbonlahor opened the scoring after 13 minutes with his third goal in four games as he held off Fabricio Coloccini before slotting a low effort past Tim Krul.

Newcastle boasted their own in-form striker in the shape of Leon Best though and he notched his fifth goal in his past six league games after 57 minutes when tapping home after Shay Given had saved his initial header. There was certainly a suspicion of offside around the goal. Read more…

Pardew buoyed by Best performance

Alan Pardew saluted the performance of Newcastle striker Leon Best after his goal rescued a point in a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa.

Best, who is 25 on Monday, has continued the fine form he showed during the latter part of last season with his third goal of the current campaign. His effort cancelled out the opener from Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor to ensure both sides remain unbeaten in the Barclays Premier League season so far. Read more…

McLeish: We were wasteful

Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish felt his side should have been more ruthless in front of goal, as they drew 1-1 with Newcastle at Villa Park.
